Medical drama Grey's Anatomy has broken television records after landing a 16th and 17th season. The series will run for another two years, with star Ellen Pompeo committed for the long run. This year, Grey's Anatomy, which was created by Shonda Rhimes, passed ER as the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history with the most episodes, and now it will also become the longest-running medical drama outright, with 17 seasons, compared to ER's 15. Grey's Anatomy, which first aired in 2005, follows Pompeo's character, Meredith Grey, and a team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, as they tackle life-or-death experiences on a daily basis. ABC TV bosses have also renewed two more hit Rhimes series - Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Station 19 for a third season and How to Get Away with Murder for a sixth season. Announcing the news in a joint statement with producing partner Betsy Beers on Friday (10May19), Rhimes revealed executive producer Krista Vernoff will "oversee" Station 19 when the drama returns, adding, "The creativity she brings to the Grey’s Anatomy universe continues a tradition of storytelling we hold dear." Meanwhile, actors Chris Carmack, Jake Borelli and Greg Germann have all been promoted to series regulars for the 16th season of Grey's Anatomy. Germann and Borelli have been recurring on the show for the past two seasons, while Carmack joined at the beginning of the current 15th season. "Chris, Jake, and Greg have been recurring for us as guest stars and have popped as fan favorites," Vernoff explains. "We are excited to continue revealing their characters and we are beyond thrilled to welcome them to the Grey’s Anatomy family."
The wrapper of a candy ring used in Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' Las Vegas wedding is being sold on eBay for thousands of dollars. Due to the last minute nature of the pair's nuptials, which took place at the fabled A Little White Wedding Chapel on 1 May (19), they used a Ring Pop Sours as a temporary stand-in for a more permanent ring. Elvis Presley impersonator Jesse Garon officiated the wedding, and found the wrapper while he was being interviewed about the ceremony by U.S. TV show Entertainment Tonight. Seizing his opportunity, Garon then put the wrapper on the U.S. auction site - with the bid standing at $4,050 (£3,090) as WENN went to press. As well as getting the "slightly used" wrapper if they win the auction, the victor will also receive a copy of the moment Garon found the trash, in addition to a "certificate of authenticity" signed by the minister. To further encourage bids on the item, Garon states in the description it is "a great gift for the Jonas Brothers fanatic the has everything (sic)." Fans clearly agree with him, as the lot already has a staggering 82 bids - with seven days still left in the auction. According to reports, Game of Thrones star Turner and her singer spouse decided to go ahead with the Vegas wedding in a bid to make their union official in the U.S. before they celebrate with a larger ceremony in France later this year. Their Sin City nuptials took place just hours after the Billboard Music Awards, with the date also the same day late singer Elvis married wife Priscilla 52 years previously. Asked about the tribute, Priscilla acknowledged it was "very sweet, really, really, very sweet," during a chat with Us Weekly magazine.
Drake added another nine gongs to his Billboard Music Awards ceremony haul on Wednesday (01May19) to clean up with 12. The rapper picked up the night's biggest awards for Top Artist and Top Male Artist during the actual awards show and also dominated the Billboard chart categories, while also landing the Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Male Artist honors. Cardi B, who was a double winner during the ceremony, picked up another four awards, thanks largely to her Maroon 5 Girls Like You collaboration, which claimed a total of four gongs, including Top Hot 100 Song. There were overall triple wins for Ella Mai, who dominated the R&B categories, country star Luke Combs, Ozuna, and Christian artist Lauren Daigle, while Beyonce and JAY-Z, Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers, Panic! At the Disco, and BTS were all double winners.
Taylor Swift will open the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with the premiere performance of her new single ME! The pop star debuted the song and its colorful accompanying video, which both feature Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendan Urie, overnight, and now it has been revealed the two pals will hit the stage together at the awards ceremony next week (01May19). "@taylorswift13 will open the #BBMAs with the worldwide premiere performance of 'ME!' featuring Brendon Urie of @PanicAtTheDisco," a post on the Billboard Awards Twitter account reads. Swift and Urie are joining previously announced 2019 awards show performers BTS and Halsey, Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, the Jonas Brothers, Khalid, Madonna and Maluma, and Urie's band Panic! at the Disco at the MGM Grand Garden Arena prizegiving in Las Vegas, hosted by Kelly Clarkson. Swift is up for two awards this year - Top Female Artist and Top Touring Artist. The singer prepared for her big release day by taking ABC cameras on a tour of her adopted Nashville, Tennessee, showing off her former high school, where she met her best friend Abigail, the fabled Bluebird Cafe, where she landed her first record deal, and her permanent songwriting exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. During the trip, which aired on Good Morning America on Friday (26Apr19), Taylor revealed she forced her parents to take her to Nashville for spring break when she was 11, so she could live out her dream of becoming a country singer/songwriter. One of the places she drove past was Curb Records, the place she hit first after learning Leann Rimes was signed to the label. She eventually sealed a recording deal with Sony ATV Publishing three years later.
